Aeroplan and Uber Canada Further Expanded Partnership

Air Canada and Uber have been expanding their partnership over the past 18 months; every few months, we see more features added. Effective today, December 15, 2021, Aeroplan members based in Canada will be able to earn Aeroplan points by linking their Aeroplan and Uber accounts.

Be sure to link Aeroplan and Uber accounts together to be able to earn Aeroplan miles with Uber. Below are the steps to get linked up:

  • Open the Uber or Uber Eats app and tap the menu on the top left corner
  • Tap ‘Settings,’ and scroll down to tap ‘Aeroplan’ under the Rewards section, then tap ‘Link Account’ and then log into the Aeroplan account
  • Once accounts are linked, members should have the ability to start earning points on qualifying Uber Eats orders and qualifying rides

Earning Opportunities

Below are the highlights of the current earning opportunities:

  • Earn 1 Aeroplan point for every $1 spent on Uber Eats orders (minimum $25 purchase)
  • Earn 1 Aeroplan point for every $1 spent on all Uber Airport Rides (in Canada and the U.S.)
  • Earn 2 Aeroplan points for every $1 spent on Uber Premium Airport Rides (in Canada and the U.S.)
  • Receive $20 Air Canada flight credit for every 10 Uber rides in Canada or the U.S.

Promotion for first time Uber users

There is also a current promotion for people who are not currently Uber users.

  • Earn 1,000 Aeroplan points for new Uber Eats users placing the first order
  • Earn 1,000 Aeroplan points for new Uber riders taking the first ride

Other Features (redemption, membership)

Below are a couple of other features of the partnership:

  • Aeroplan members can redeem their points for Uber gift cards and a 3-month Uber Pass membership
  • Aeroplan credit cardholders get a free Uber Pass membership for 3, 6 or 12 months (depending on their type of co-branded cards that they have)

For those who qualify to receive a free Uber Pass membership, be sure to activate it by the following steps:

  • Open the Uber or Uber Eats app and tap the menu on the top left corner
  • Add eligible Aeroplan credit card to the Uber account
  • Activate the free Uber Pass membership and use the Aeroplan credit card when paying for qualifying purchases (the same one used to activate your free membership)

Conclusion

Air Canada continues to expand their reach to increase the value of their program and I am a little torn by this.

On the one hand, this is amazing to see, because I love to see a strong Canadian frequent flyer program. Canada definitely should have a strong airline to complete on a global scale.

On the other hand, it feels like the other Canadian airlines are lagging behind and the gap is widening quite a bit. So there is a monopoly on our hands. I hope that other airlines can find a way to step it up.

In the meantime, looking forward to seeing what else they have to offer!
