Air Canada Altitude Partners with SPG

Air Canada Altitude has recently collaborated with Starwood Preferred Guest to create more benefits for its loyal members. Please note that this is a targeted email towards Altitude members, so please check your inbox before proceeding with the SPG elite program.

Here’s the status challenge.

You can become an SPG Gold and Platinum elite member even quicker when you are an Air Canada Altitude Prestige 25K member.

Gold Status Challenge

You will need to first register for the challenge. After registration, you will need to stay 9 eligible nights within 90 days (or three months) in order to receive Gold Status membership benefits. Some benefits include the following:

  • Earn 3 Starpoints per dollar spent (50% more than regular members)
  • Late checkout time at 4:00 PM
  • Free upgrade to an enhanced room, which includes a higher floor or better view
  • You will have a choice of a welcome gift when you check-in
  • Complimentary premium internet in your hotel room

Platinum Status Challenge

Again, you will need to first register for the challenge. After registration, you will need to stay 18 eligible nights within 90 days (or three months) in order to receive Platinum Status membership benefits.

Some benefits include the following:

  • Earn 3 Starpoints per dollar spent (50% more than regular members)
  • You will have a choice of a welcome gift when you check-in
  • Free upgrade to the best available room, which also includes the Standard Suites
  • Complimentary premium internet in your hotel room
  • Guaranteed room availability which also includes access to the health club
  • Complimentary and guaranteed access to the lounge

Now if we look at earning elite membership through strictly the Starwood Preferred Guest program, you will find the following:

In order to achieve Gold Status, you will need to have at least 10 eligible stays or 25 eligible nights in a qualifying period. Similarly, in order to achieve Platinum Status, you will need to have at least 25 eligible stays or 50 eligible nights in a qualifying period. Comparing this to the challenge mentioned above, it is clear that SPG has made it much easier for Air Canada Altitude members to achieve SPG elite status.

The Catch

For qualification, you must not have had Starwood Preferred Guest Gold or Platinum membership for at least five years. If you register for the challenge, you may only be eligible for it once. If you signed up for the challenge, but did not complete it, you may re-enter into the challenge in the following year.

The challenge seems like it is made to reward Air Canada Altitude members with elite status in the Starwood Preferred Guest program. The amount of eligible stays required to achieve SPG status has decreased by one-third if you are an Altitude member. If you’re a frequenter of both companies, then gaining double status just became a little easier.

  1. I kind of find this targeted promotion weird since this status challenge is actually available to everyone.
