Air Canada Introduces Pre-Order Meal

Air Canada introduced a new features that allows Signature Class and Premium Economy passengers to pre-order a meal before boarding a plane.

How it works

They can pre-order as early as 30 days prior and up to 72 hours before flight departure.

Basically, within 30 days of departure, Signature Class and Premium Economy passengers on eligible flights will receive an email inviting them to pre-order their meal. Customers will be able to select their preferred meal through “My Booking” on aircanada.com or “Trips” in the Air Canada app (see of screenshot of each below).

Passengers will also be able to update a previous order up to 72 hours before departure before they stop taking orders.

Available flights

Since this is a beta launch, it will be tested on flight departing from the Toronto Pearson International (YYZ) to 4 destinations in South America:

  • El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá, Colombia
  • Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) in Lima, Peru
  • Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL) in Santiago, Chili
  • São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) in Sao Paulo, Brazil

It looks like the plan is the expand further throughout 2023, with a goal of including all Canada-outbound flights by year-end.

Thoughts

I’m sure that there will still be some people who rather decide in-flight, since it could depend on our cravings in that moment. However, I do appreciate having the option to choose ahead of time. I would say the main benefit is to have the peace of mind that the flight will for sure have what I want to eat before it runs out of stock.

I like this move by Air Canada and looking forward to this feature being expanded further!
