[INTERVIEW] Prince of Travel, Montreal YUL Signature Event

It has been nearly 5 years since we last interviewed Ricky Zhang, founder of Prince of Travel. Back then, things were just getting going. Now Prince of Travel has come such a long way and has grown into so much more than a blog. We thought it was a great time to catch up with him. Thank you so much Ricky for taking the time out of your schedule to answer some of our questions. Also, thank you for being such a leader in the miles and points sphere, Prince of Travel has been such an inspiration to us!

If you want to meet him in person, you should definitely book your ticket at his upcoming Signature Event in Montreal (YUL). The event takes place at the W Montreal on April 2, 2022, so there is still time to register!

1) Hi Ricky! It’s been almost 5 years since we last interviewed you, pretty much when you first started out, how are things at Prince of Travel been since then?

Things have been wonderful, and I’ve been really enjoying the journey of growing the website and sharing the joys of travelling the world on points with even more people. I recall we had done our first interview back when I was just starting out, and I must say that the last five years have been everything I had hoped for out of this venture and more!

2) Please tell us about your upcoming Signature Event in Montreal?

We’re hosting our first in-person community event of 2022 at the W Montreal on Saturday, April 2, 2022. This is an opportunity to gather with Canada’s most dedicated travellers and points collectors, meet and build connections among like-minded individuals, and learn from a series of expert panels to help you raise your travel game.

3) What are some highlights that people benefit from an event like this?

I’m particularly excited for some of the speaker sessions, which I think attendees will find especially useful for navigating the post-COVID travel world of soaring demand, high prices, and ever-changing restrictions and policies.

Our expert traveller panel will share our thoughts on what the travel landscape and rewards strategies will look like in a post-COVID world. I’ll also lead a live demonstration of searching and booking award travel, which is a topic that I think many points collectors find intimidating when they’re first starting out. Finally, get the insider lowdown on a next-level play: how to become a registered travel agent and unlock all the perks and discounts associated with that gig.

4) You’ve really expanded Prince of Travel to more than just a blog, what else can people look forward to?

We’ve worked hard over the past few years on building out our YouTube and social media presence, building communities through our membership program and in-person event series, and altogether positioning ourselves at the cutting edge of what it means to be a traveller – and in particular, a savvy traveller with all the right knowledge and strategies to travel more for less – in the modern era.

So expect much more of the same, and a few fresh new ideas as well, as we continue to work on bringing the joys of credit card rewards, loyalty programs, and seeing the world using Miles & Points to as many people as travellers.

5) Any closing thoughts?

I’m so excited to be heading to South East Asia soon for the first time since the pandemic – in mid-April, just after our Signature Event. I hope to catch many of you in Montreal on April 2!
