News and Notes (Air Canada, Air Miles, Cineplex)

Today’s post is to summarise some of the news and notes to watch for related to Canadian specific companies. Namely regarding Air Canada, Air Miles and Cineplex.

Air Canada Upgrades

Air Canada has changed its eUpgrade request process. Beginning on October 6, 2020, members no longer need to wait until their upgrade booking window opens. Basically, members can request their upgrade online any time prior to check-in. When the seats become available, it will clear automatically within their upgrade clearance window.

Also,  keep in mind that Air Canada already simplified its eUpgrade eligibility. Since September 21, 2020, all Air Canada fare options will be eligible for eUpgrades, with the exception of Economy Basic fares.

Furthermore, effective November 8, 2020, regarding  eUpgrade Clearance for Companions, when seats are available, upgrade requests for companions travelling in the same reservation as an Elite Status member will clear with the priority of the member’s status, including at the airport.

Lastly, for upgrade requests made through March 31, 2021, members can enjoy an eUpgrade add-on waiver for upgrades from Premium Economy to Business Class on international flights operated by Air Canada.

Air Miles Teams up with Canadian Appliance Source

The AIR MILES reward program has added as another partner, Canadian Appliance Source (CAS). Effective October 1, 2020, collectors can now earn miles with CAS, which has over 25 locations across Canada. Collectors can earn 1 mile for every $40 spent in-store and online.

Air Miles Bonus Boom

Between October 1, 2020 and October 14, 2020, keep in mind that you can earn 95 bonus miles when combining 3 different Bonus Boom offers.

As for CAS, there is a 3x the miles on almost anything in-store and online as part of the event.

Cineplex Closed in Quebec

Scene members will have to wait to earn points at Quebec Cineplex locations as they will be closed until at least October 28, 2020.

It is possible that other locations across the country may close down too. So if you want to go to the theatres, now may be the time to do. That being said, we at Pointshogger would highly recommend against going.

We want to see everyone to be safe. Do keep in mind that members can earn Scene points by renting movies from home. Members can earn points with rentals and digital movie downloads at the Cineplex Store at a rate of earn 10 points for every $1 spent.
