Reward Options with the Rogers Platinum MasterCard

The Rogers Platinum MasterCard is quickly becoming one of the more popular credit card for Canadians, especially because it waives foreign exchange fees (generally 2.5% transaction fee with other credit cards). Not to mention that the annual fee is waived if you are a Rogers customer (which can also be considered the catch) and 1.75% cash back on all purchases.

Highlights

Below are the full highlights of the credit card:

  • $29 annual fee (waived the first year or waived so long as you have pre-authorized Rogers payments set up)
  • Earn $35 cash back sign up bonus
  • Earn 1.75% cash back on all purchases
  • No foreign exchange fees
  • Apply cash back to purchases made in Rogers branded stores or monthly Rogers bill

How the Rewards Are Calculated

The way you accumulate points is that every $1 you spend, you earn 5 points. When you redeem your points, every point is worth 0.35 cents. That’s how you are getting 1.75 cents return (5 x 0.35 cents) for every $1 spent. So you will receive 10,000 sign up bonus points, which is worth the $35.

Reward Options

Rogers, Fido and chatr

You can redeem your points towards monthly bills from Rogers, Fido and chatr, as long as the bill is paid for by this credit card. Alternatively, you can redeem your points towards in-store purchases made at participating Rogers and Fido branded retail locations or online purchases at Rogers.com and Fido.ca.

Texture by Next Issue

You can also redeem for other eligible Rogers services, namely Texture by Next Issue subscriptions.

Toronto Blue Jays Merchandise and Tickets

If you are a baseball fan, you can even redeem your points towards Toronto Blue Jays merchandise at the Jays Shop online or in store, as well as single game tickets, Flex Packs, Seasons Tickets or Group Tickets or concessions at Rogers Centre.

Personal Experience

I actually have this credit card because I use Rogers for my Internet service (mainly because my building is wired to only Bell or Rogers, so only 2 choices anyway). So my annual fee is continually waived. I am more than happy to use this credit card on foreign purchases to avoid the foreign transaction fees. So far I have only redeem towards my monthly bill payments.

  1. If you read the fine print, you will see that it is possible to redeem for non Rogers purchases once a year in the form of statement credit.

Also, I signed up at a store and was able to get $65 as sign up bonus. Think that offer is still valid.
