Top Credit Cards to use at Restaurants (updated February 7, 2014)

Exactly a week away from Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be an appropriate time to list the top credit cards to use at restaurants.

The TrueEarnings Card Costco and American Express

  • No annual fee
  • You must be a Costco member to get this card
  • Earn 3% cash back on eligible restaurant purchases (for some reason, some restaurants are ineligible)
  • The cash back is issued to you in January in the form of a coupon to be used at Costco only

You can read more analysis here.

Scotiabank Platinum American Express Card

  • $399 annual fee
  • $99 for supplementary cardholders
  • Earn 30,000 bonus points with your first card purchase (promotion until March 31, 2014)
  • Earn 4 points for every $1 you spent on dining

You can read more analysis here.

Scotiabank Gold American Express Card

  • $99 annual fee (waived the first year if you apply before March 31, 2014)
  • $29 for additional cardholders
  • Earn 4 points for every $1 you spent on dining

You can read more analysis here.

Aside from these credit cards, if you have a credit card that earns you 2% on all purchases or 2 points per $1 on all purchases, that would encompass restaurants, you are still getting good value. These credit cards include Capital One Aspire Travel World MasterCard or the MBNA Rewards World Elite MasterCard.
