Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! This is probably a fun day for some, and not so much for others. By the time you are reading this post, it is probably too late to start planning for the day, so I am going to give a few tips for next year’s Valentine’s Day. Here are some of my suggestions:

1) Travel

For most parts of the country, if you’re not a huge fan of the cold like me, then you’re probably already tired of the winter. We’ve already been in the cold for a few months now. Though the cold should be winding down in the next few weeks, I find that this would have been a great time to travel. The first reason is that this is low season. Secondly, since we’ve been bearing the cold winter for the past few months, this would have been a good time to break from the cold and go somewhere warm.

So if you want to avoid all the busy traffic at all the restaurants, for next year, maybe you can consider travelling during this time period, then you can celebrate your Valentine’s Day somewhere warm! My birthday is also in the winter and I have celebrated my birthday in Hawaii. Trust me, it’s more fun!

2) Identify what purchases you make leading up to Valentine’s Day

I’m sure you may have bought some items for more than what you wanted to pay for. So keep a list of all the items that you tend to buy during this day, including restaurant purchases. You will want to maximize the rewards that you can get for such purchases to soften the blow.

3) Have your credit card and loyalty card portfolio ready well ahead of time

After identifying what you tend to purchase for this day, be sure to have your credit card and loyalty card portfolio so that you can maximize the return on your purchases. For example, when purchasing flowers, there are some flower websites that give you bonus points for a loyalty program, such as:

• Earning bonus Aeroplan points when purchasing flowers on FTD or Floraworld.

4) Choose a good credit card to use at the restaurant
