A few BMO Credit Cards Promotions to Watch for
The Bank of Montreal (BMO) is offering several promotions simultaneously. If you have been contemplating whether to sign up for some of these credit cards, now may be a good time.
I have always recommended that you wait for an additional bonus offer when signing up for any sort of credit card.
Cash Back Credit Cards
- No annual fee
- Earn 2% cash back spent on all purchases for the first six months (if you apply before August 31, 2016)
- Earn 1% cash back thereafter on all purchases
- No annual fee
- Earn $50 cash back after your first purchase (if you apply before June 9, 2016)
- Earn 0.5% cash back on all purchases
- Earn 10% – 15% discount at the stores listed on the SPC website
As a student, you should definitely have one of the two SPC credit card. Either this one or the Air Miles one listed below.
BMO Cash Back World Elite MasterCard
- $120 annual fee
- Earn $150 cash back, earn the first $50 after your first purchase and the additional $100 cash back when you spend $3,000 in the first 3 month (if you apply between January 4, 2016 and August 31, 2016)
- Earn 1.75% cash back on all purchases
I would only get this credit card if you are an existing BMO bank customer and I would push them to continually waive this annual fee for you. Otherwise, there are better options out there.
Personally, I rather the fixed rewards credit cards that offer a 2% return on travel expenses instead. If you are a Rogers customer, they actually offer a better 1.75% option that has no annual fees.
Air Miles Credit Cards
- No annual fee
- Earn 2 Miles for every $20 spent in the six months (if you apply before August 31, 2016)
- Earn 1.5x Air Miles point at National Car Rental & Alamo Rent A Car locations worldwide
- Earn 1.25x Air Miles point Shell locations in Canada
- Earn 1 Air Miles point for every $20 spent on all other purchases
I actually prefer it when they offer the 800 Air Miles sign up bonus instead. So I would hold off on this application.
- No annual fee
- Earn 400 sign up bonus miles (if you apply before June 9, 2016)
- Earn 1 Air Mile points for every $20 spent on all purchases
- Earn 10% – 15% discount at the stores listed on the SPC website
BMO Air Miles World Elite MasterCard
- $120 annual fee
- No fee for supplementary cardholders
- Earn 3,000 miles, earn the first 1,000 after the first purchase and another 2,000 miles after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months (if you apply before June 9, 2016)
- Earn 1 Air Mile for every $10 spent on all purchases
- Receive a 25% Flight Discount
- Travel & Medical Insurance
- Receive 2 Priority Pass lounges passes per year
- BMO Concierge Service
don’t see many takers… how could these offers esp. those have AF compete to other banks’ like chase, citi or amex?
Just a heads up about the fee for supplementary cards, you may want to read the FAQs: http://www.bmo.com/main/personal/credit-cards/cha-faqs as it looks there will be changes as of June 10, 2016.
I just switched to the BMO Air Miles World Elite MasterCard and will not be charged for the supplementary card until my next anniversary date, May 2017.
Thanks for the heads up!
