Aeroplan Transfer Bonus is back
Aeroplan’s conversion bonus is back. The promotion is good from July 11, 2016 to August 15, 2016.
With this bonus offer, you can earn up to 55,000 bonus Aeroplan miles. Normally, Aeroplan has a list of transfer partners that allow you to convert points to Aeroplan miles without incurring any conversion fee. Every few months, you will find an added bonus during the conversion, which are listed in by percentages as follows:
- 2,500 to 99,999 = 20%
- 100,000 to 149,999 = 25%
- 150,000 to 199,999 = 26.7%
- 200,000+ = 27.5%
As you can see, the more points you convert, the higher the bonus percentage.
List of Partners
The list of transfer partners has not changed in a while.
Hotels: Starwood Preferred Guest, Wyndham Rewards, Best Western Rewards, Choice Privileges, Coast Rewards, Club Carlson, Hilton HHonors, Marriott Rewards, Le Club Accorhotels (Accor hotels), and Golden Circle Award (Shangri-La Hotels).
Car Rentals: Hertz Gold Plus Rewards
Other: Diner’s Club Rewards, Points.com
Once again, American Express’ Membership Rewards program is not participating in this promotion.
CIBC’s Aventura rewards program is not participating in transfer bonus either. Note that as of October 1, 2013, Aventura members who are grandfathers in the old program, are still eligible to convert their Aventura points to Aeroplan miles. Anyone who became a member afterwards can no longer transfer their points to Aeroplan.
When to Consider Transferring Hotel Points
This promotion comes around often enough during the year, so if you are planning on transferring your hotel points anyway, I would always hold off this the bonus comes around.
Personally, I have never transferred any of my hotel points to Aeroplan. I find that I get more value in redeeming my points for hotel stays instead.
There are two situations where I may considering transferring my hotel points is if I see an airline reward flight and I needed to top up my Aeroplan account in a hurry. Another occasion is when I just want to burn the remaining hotels points that I have because I have no intention of using that specific hotel loyalty program any more. I would transfer to prevent my points from expiring.
Additional Notes
Bonus miles are credited 7‑10 days following successful receipt by Aeroplan of a conversion transaction from the partner. So if you need your miles in a hurry, keep this timeline in mind.
Hi Matthew,
So is this additional bonus to the transfer lets say from starwood to Aeroplan, 20,000 gets you 25000, plus this 4,000 on top ??
Can I add a additional question – Husband and I both have the AMEX gold- Before the free 1yr no fee comes up, I do not see a point in both paying a fee, but instead switching one as a supplementary card holder, do you agree ? Because we also have Visa Avion, where I have to pay for a supplementary card hold ($50/yr) on that one, so we both might as well have 1 main card, correct ?
thanks, susan

Yes for the SPG to Aeroplan.
Keep in mind that you actually get 1 free supplementary card with AMEX Gold.
