How Canadian Flights are Affected to and from Brussels
It has been a sad week for travellers to and from Belgium. As a result of the tragedy, airlines have been offering free rebooking or cancelling flights entirely. Some airlines are taking a wait and see approach. So check with your airlines. For this post, I will focus on the Canadian centric portion of it.
All flights departing to and from Brussels Airport (BRU) are cancelled till March 27, 2016 (included). Stay updated on the Brussels Airport website.
Air Canada
Air Canada and many other airlines are offering a free rebooking.
There is only one Air Canada flight to Brussels, Belgium, which is between Brussels and Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL).
Air Canada customers who bought a ticket between March 22, 2016 and March 31, 2016 (originally only until March 28) will be allowed to change their flight at no cost. However, the new flight must take place before April 30, 2016 and must have seats available in the same cabin as the original flight in order to avoid additional fees.
Air Transat
Air Transat also flies between Brussels and Montreal, but it is a seasonal flight that does not operate during this time period. They only operate between the months of May and October.
Brussels Airlines
Brussels Airlines is suppose to begin operations to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on March 27, 2016. We will see if flights resume after that. You can stay updated on the Brussels Airlines website. Last I checked, no schedule has been posted yet for Canadian flights.
Jet Airways
Jet Airways operates a 5th freedom flight to Brussels also to and from Toronto, which is slated to end on March 25, 2016, since all flights are cancelled till the 26th anyway, this puts an early end to all Jet Airways flights on this route.
