[ANALYSIS] Alitalia’s MilleMiglia

Oddly enough, Alitalia is a transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards. Since it has the attention of American Express Canada, I believe that Alitalia merits a post.

Also puzzling is that Alitalia only operates out of the Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Rome Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO). It used to operated out of Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL), but not any more. This makes it even more curious as to why American Express has decided to partner with Alitalia in Canada.

When you fly with Alitalia , you can earn MilleMiglia points. Alitalia is part of the SkyTeam airline alliance.

You can convert your American Express Membership Reward points to MilleMiglia points:

  • 1,000 Membership Rewards points = 750 MilleMiglia points (increments of 100 thereafter)

You can earn MilleMiglia points are through the Starwood Preferred Guest Starpoints program. Starpoints transfer at a 1:1 ratio. Just remember that for every 20,000 Starpoints that you transfer, you get 5,000 bonus airlines points, which means 25,000 MilleMiglia points.

I would not go out of my way to earn MilleMiglia points. Personally I earn Delta SkyMiles already as my main SkyTeam loyalty program. Therefore, if I ever flew on Alitalia, I would just bank Delta SkyMiles instead.
