First Year Fee Waived and 25,000 Sign Up Bonus with TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card (expired on August 31, 2015)
The TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card is once again offering a higher than normal sign up bonus and its first year fee waived. The normal sign up bonus is 15,000, which is now 25,000 Aeroplan miles. Below are the highlights of the credit card:
- $120 annual fee (first year fee waived if you apply before
August 31, 2015) - $50 for supplementary cardholders
- Earn 25,000 sign up bonus points (15,000 after your first purchase and another 10,000 after spending $1,000 within the first 90 days)
- Earn 1.5 point for every $1 spent on gas, grocery, drug store and AirCanada.com (excluding Air Canada vacation packages) purchases
- Earn 1 point for every $1 spent on all other purchases
- Earn 1 free checked bag when travelling on an Aeroplan reward flight
- Earn 1 annual Maple Leaf Lounge guest pass when travelling on an Aeroplan flight reward operated by Air Canada
I am really glad to see TD offering this promotion more often. This obviously helps with the competition in Canada. I am actually quite happy to see TD partner up with Aeroplan and I am even more happy to see CIBC staying on as a partner. Along with American Express remaining as a partner, they have really increased the competition for Aeroplan co-branded credit cards and made it much easier for Canadians to rack up points in a hurry.
Conversely, one of my concerns is that because it is so easy to earn Aeroplan miles now, there is a lot of miles in circulation. Which means at some point we may see more devaluations to the program. It is always a balance that needs to be struck. As a consumer, we want to get as much value out of our points as possible. But if everyone is on board, then it depreciates the value of each point. As many of the other bloggers suggest, this factor is why we shouldn’t hoard our points for too long. Use them when you can, because programs will continually depreciate over time. The day that trend reverses, then maybe we can hoard.
For the time being, let’s just enjoy the increase in competition and ride the waive while we still can.
