World of Hyatt for Canadians
Hyatt has re-branded itself to World of Hyatt. What does this mean for Canada specifically? Not much different than the rest of its world members. I thought I’d give a quick rundown of the new program and how it affects Canadians.
Expiry Policy
Hyatt is going to be making a slight change to its expiry policy. First of all, your account needs to be active once every 24 months to prevent your points from expiry. If your points expiry prior to July 1, 2017, your membership could be terminated as well.
Starting on July 1, 2017, if your account was inactive for the same 24 months, you will still lose your points, but your account will remain open.
Aside from staying at a hotel or redeeming for a reward night, the two easier ways to keep your account active (as a Canadian, without needing to burn your points before you want to) is to bank any Avis car rentals towards World of Hyatt (earn 500 points for each qualifying car rental) or purchase points (watch for promotional offers).

List of Hotels in Canada
In Canada, there are currently 8 Hyatt branded hotels:
- Hyatt Regency Calgary (category 3)
- Hyatt Regency Montreal (category 2)
- Hyatt Regency Toronto (category 3)
- Hyatt Regency Vancouver (category 3)
- Park Hyatt Toronto (category 4)
- Andaz Ottawa Byward Market (category 3)
- Hyatt Place Edmonton/Downtown (category 2)
- Hyatt Place Edmonton/West (category 2)
It used to be slim pickings in Canada, but they list has really grown over the years. The top 5 major cities in Canada are covered now.
Conclusion
Unfortunately, there are currently no Canadian co-branded credit cards associated with Hyatt. I do not see this changing any time soon. However, will all these new hotel expansions in Canada, I do hope that World of Hyatt is going to have some further integration with the country. If no co-branded credit card, maybe a transfer partner with one of the transferable points loyalty programs?
