Aeroplan Conversion Bonus (March 14, 2016 – April 18, 2016)
Aeroplan is once again offering its conversion bonus promotion. This time around, they are offering its highest level of bonus ever.
Conversion Chart
First off, let’s take a look at their new conversion chart breakdown.
Here are the conversion bonus listed by percentages:
- 2,500 to 99,999 = 20%
- 100,000 to 149,999 = 25%
- 150,000 to 199,999 = 26.7%
- 200,000+ = 27.5%
As you can see, their new highest conversion bonus level is also the highest bonus percentage. I am glad to see this addition.
List of Partners
The list of transfer partners has not changed in a while.
Hotels: Starwood Preferred Guest, Wyndham Rewards, Best Western Rewards, Choice Privileges, Coast Rewards, Club Carlson, Hilton HHonors, Marriott Rewards, Le Club Accorhotels (Accor hotels), and Golden Circle Award (Shangri-La Hotels).
Car Rentals: Hertz Gold Plus Rewards
Other: Diner’s Club Rewards, Points.com
Once again, American Express’ Membership Rewards program is not participating in this promotion.
CIBC’s Aventura rewards program is not participating in this program either. Note that Aventura members as of October 1, 2013, who are grandfathers in the old program, are still eligible to convert their Aventura points to Aeroplan miles.
When to Consider Transferring Hotel Points
Most transfer bonuses offered by hotel chains are too dismal for me to consider. So personally, I would not generally convert any of my hotel points for airline miles. Not even my Starpoints, even though they give the bonus 5,000 miles for every 20,000 transferred. I much prefer using my hotel points for a free hotel night instead.
That being said, there are some extreme case where I would transfer my hotel points to an airline is when I need to keep my hotel points account active and I have no other options. Even then, I would just transfer the bear minimum required.
Another occasion is when I just want to burn the remaining hotels points that I have because I have no intention of using that specific hotel loyalty program any more.
Additional Notes
Bonus miles are credited 7‑10 days following successful receipt by Aeroplan of a conversion transaction from the partner.
What I like most about this promotion is that there is an indication from Aeroplan that they are trying to improve their program by offering something more competitive than before. This is the least they could do since their devaluations to their award chart.
