Aeroplan and Parkland (Journie Rewards) Team up!
Air Canada’s Aeroplan and Parkland’s Journie Rewards are teaming up to increase earning and redemption opportunities. The partnership is set to launch in the fall of 2023.
Parkland owns and operates Canadian gas stations including Ultramar, Chevron, Pioneer, Fas Gas, and ON the RUN and Marché Express. Currently, while filling up gas or making purchases at their convenient stores, customers can earn Journie Rewards, which we are a big fan of. Enter Aeroplan!

Thoughts
The press release is a little thin on details, but we are definitely looking forward to see what they have in store. In the past, we were able to earn Aeroplan points at Esso gas stations, but after May 31, 2018, they discontinued their partnership. Since then, Esso has moved on with PC Optimum and even discontinued their own Esso Extra program. While Aeroplan has yet to team up with other gas companies until now.
We are definitely looking forward to how this is going to look like. Here are some questions that come to mind:
- What exactly is going to happen to Journie Rewards? How can they co-exist?
- A transferrable points relationship?
- Is CIBC going to revamp their cards, since they already have partnerships with Aeroplan and Journie Rewards?
Personally, I feel like this is a bigger win for Journie Rewards, as it opens many more doors for them. It is more business as usual for Air Canada. Either way, this is probably an existing time for both companies!
I would say this is a win for CIBC more than anything since they have relationships with both companies. I was already going to swap out my TD Aeroplan card for the CIBC card because of the Ultramar benefit and partial waiver on fees for the premium card but now this makes the move even better.
Good point, this is also a win for CIBC!
