[AIRPORT] Options for Flights to Washington D.C.
UPDATE- Baltimore–Washington International Airport has been added to the list below.
Today, we continue our multi-part series on direct routes flying out of Canada to certain hot spots. There are situations where a connection flight may make more sense, in terms of costs. Also, depending on where you live in Canada, different routes may apply. For the purposes of this series, it will have an emphasis on direct routes.
Washington D.C. may not seem like the most popular tourist destination, nevertheless, there is a fair amount of traffic through the U.S. capital city. Especially Washington Dulles International Airport, which has a lot of potential valuable connecting flights. It is worth noting that unlike some of the other capitals around the world, Ottawa does have direct flights with Washington D.C. Below is a list of direct flights from Canada to Washington D.C.
Baltimore–Washington International Airport (BWI)
- Air Canada Express – Toronto
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
- Air Canada Express – Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto
- US Airways Express – Toronto
Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
- Porter Airlines – Toronto
- United Airlines (Seasonal) – Vancouver
- United Express – Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto
- United Express (Seasonal) – Halifax, Québec City
Uh, Washington, DC not a popular tourist destination? I mean I get that you’re Canadian but that’s like an American saying that there really aren’t any good hockey teams in Canada. Just try walking down any street in the city during summer and not bumping into a tourist (of any nationality).
Also, what’s the point of this series? Maybe it’d be more helpful to list the pros/cons of flying into Dulles vs National. One is 45 minutes away by taxi and the other right across the river. One is a major international and regional hub for one of the big three airlines, the other is a focus city of a big three for direct flights to the greater eastern seaboard. On that thread one is huge for one alliance and the other for a different, and the third alliance has no major presence in the city. Am I to take it from this article that there are no flights to Baltimore/Washington International from Canada?
Personally I have visited Washington D.C. twice myself and enjoyed it both times. What I mean by not so popular is that it is generally not in the top must see places for Canadians. But there are definitely lots of tourists both times I was there. Great suggestions for future post ideas. Will keep all this in mind.
