First Year Fee Waived on CIBC Aventura Credit Cards

CIBC has been on a roll lately. Along with the business version, both the CIBC Aventura Infinite and Gold Visa personal cards are also waiving their first year fees. Though not as generous as the 25,000 sign up bonus Aventura points on the business version, you are still getting a decent 15,000 sign up bonus points.

Below are the highlights of the CIBC Aventura Infinite Visa Card:

• $120 annual fee (first year fee waived if you apply before December 30, 2015)
• Earn 15,000 points after your first purchase
• Earn 3 points at select CIBC bonus rewards Establishments
• Earn 2 points on purchases made with the CIBC Aventura Rewards Centre
• Earn 1.5 point for every $1 spent on gas, groceries and drug stores
• Earn 1 point for every $1 on all other purchases

The Gold card has virtually the same features and benefits as the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Card list above. The main difference is that you only earn 1.5 point at select CIBC Bonus Rewards establishments. Another example is that the Infinite card has trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance.

Short haul flights can go as low as 10,000 Aventura points, so the sign up bonus will at least net you a short haul flight. We have written an extensive analysis on this credit card in the past.

I would get this card if you know that you have a few trips coming up within the next 52-weeks (before the annual fee is due). The $120 annual fee is stiff, but it does cover a wide variety of travel insurance.

Annual fees are one of the biggest deterrents to signup up for a credit card, ,so for credit cards like these, I would like to see the financial institution reward big spenders. For instance, I would like to one day see a feature where you get your annual fee waived year and year if you spend $10,000 per year on the credit card, or something similar to that effect.
