[HOTEL] Uber Partners Up with Starwood Preferred Guest
On February 24, 2015, Starwood Preferred Guest and the trending ride-hailing service Uber announced that they will be rewarding Starwood members with points if they ride with Uber. Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldside, Inc. currently has over 1,000 properties and about 70 locations in Canada. According to Uber’s official website, the ride-hailing service currently operates in five cities in Canada including Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and Burlington.
With this partnership, you can now earn 1 Starpoint for every dollar you spend riding with Uber. You will need to be a Starwood Preferred Guest membership in order to take advantage of this program. It seems that the program is currently available in all U.S. locations and is set to for worldwide availability.
Having spoken to a friend recently about the new concept of public transportation that Uber seems to take on, he told me that the service is great for tourists and travelers to get around the city. Currently, there aren’t any strict regulations concerning the Uber service, so he had advised me that it wasn’t too safe to take during the evening hours. However, Uber currently operates in 55 countries around the world; so you can definitely see its rising potential to surpass other public transport services.
Despite the fact that there is a huge competition amongst local taxi services, this partnership is a huge encouragement for Starwood members to lean towards taking Uber over a local taxi.
hey! Dont think Uber operates in Vancouver, BC Canada. The listing on their website is Vancouver, WA.
Hi Anshul,
Thank you for clarifying that!
I wish there are in Vancouver, BC… it is so difficult to find a cab sometimes in the middle of the night and with Skytrain closed after 12:40pm. Could have earned points on my late-night travels too!!
Hi Jenny,
I agree, I would love to see Vancouver with the Uber service, being one of the largest cities in our country. It would make it very convenient, especially if you can earn rewards at the same time!
