List of Airline Alliances (updated August 2, 2015)

The last update to the list of Airline Alliances was exactly 1 year ago. was almost a year ago. So this is a good a time as any to update the airline alliances list. I have included all the affiliate airlines more extensively this time around.

I am big on airline alliances because it can really help you maximize your points portfolio, as well as help alleviate the expiry dates and blackout dates issue.

For instance, I have a few suggested approaches. Sign up for at least one loyalty program per airline alliance. This way, you can maximize all the benefits. With one loyalty program per alliance, that means that you can always look for the cheapest flight ticket (so long as the airline is a member of one of the alliances), and then just pay for the cheapest flight. This way, you can bank your points towards any of the alliances without missing out.

If you can manage to load up on points for all 3 alliances, then when it comes time to redeem your points, you have many more options of reward flights to choose from. This gives you much more flexibility for your travels.

Currently, I use:

  • Aeroplan for Star Alliance
  • British Airways and American Airlines for Oneworld
  • Delta Air Lines for SkyTeam

Aeroplan is the easier loyalty program in Canada to earn points in a hurry, especially because of all the large credit card sign up bonuses available to us. British Airways is pretty much the second easier to load up on points because of all the credit card sign up bonuses available, as well as the transfer partners American Express Membership Rewards and RBC Avion. I have American Airlines because I signed up for it way back and have managed to keep the account active (mostly through E-Rewards transfers). I rarely fly SkyTeam so I went with Delta Air Lines because the points never expire with them.

That being said, below is a list of all the memberships within 3 major airline alliances:

  1. This is for some reason one of the only simple lists on the internet listing the affiliated airlines. Thanks for taking the time. I am coming up with a tool to sort routes for award searching and this list is incredibly hepful, I will credit this as a source. Cheers

  2. Hi Mathew,
I just have question that in case if an Airline in one alliance bought-over by an Airline in another Alliance…
Will there be any impact on the current alliance. Same way what happen in case of merger of two Airlines globally.

    1. Hi Chamith, yes there could be an impact. Though it is a case by case basis. Depending on what the terms and conditions are of the merger.

    1. Hi Naa, I will be sure to put an explanation in the next update. The non dotted ones are the main airlines. The dotted ones are the regional services.

  3. Hi, can I have a privilege when I used to travel with different airlines of the same alliance member. If so, which airlines are responsible for me.
