[REVIEW] Rogers Bank Connections MasterCard

Effective May 17, 2023, the Rogers Connections Mastercard has been revamped. Today, we will review the new structure of the card and discuss how it is different from before.

Highlights

Let’s start off with the key highlights of the card.

• No annual fee
• Earn 10% cash back on the first $1,000 in spending within the first 3 months (up to $100 cash back)
• Earn 2% cash back (no limit) on all purchases (must have 2 qualifying services with Rogers)
• Earn 2% cash back on U.S. dollar purchases
• Earn 1% cash back on all other purchases
• Receive 5 Roam Like Home days at no cost every year (up to $75 value)
• Receive 30% cash back bonus when redeeming for Rogers purchases

Annual Fee

Before the revamp, there was a $29 annual fee to have this card. Now that there are no annual fees, it makes this card a no brainer for all Rogers customers.

Welcome Bonus

The sign up bonus is the same as what it was before. Basically it is a $98 sign up bonus ($100 – $2 of what cardholders would have otherwise earned normally).

2x Multiplier Bonus

This is another new feature of the card. Previously, there was no 2% multiplier bonus on all spending.

To qualify for the 2% unlimited cash back, the cardholder has to be actively subscribed to an eligible Rogers Wireless plan and an eligible Rogers Home service (including Rogers Internet, TV, Home Phone or Home Monitoring service), as well as linked their Rogers Connections Mastercard to one of their eligible Rogers accounts. This excludes business/corporate plans, wireless plans with chatr, Fido or any other brands owned or acquired by Rogers.

Note that the Home services must be in the province of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, or Ontario (except Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie). This excludes bulk home services, wireless home internet, mobile internet, and home services with any other brands owned or acquired by Rogers.

Also, only one Rogers Connections Mastercard can be linked to one eligible Rogers Communications account.

Roam Like Home / 30% Bonus

The Roam Like Home and 30% cash back bonus are exactly like it was before. The 5 Roam Like Home days are worth $75 annually. While the 30% bonus on the earned cash back value can be applied when redeeming for Rogers purchases like phone upgrades, wireless accessories, or a monthly Rogers bill.

Thoughts

These are definitely huge upgrades to the card. I like this move by Rogers, especially eliminating the annual fee, which probably discouraged a lot of people from obtaining this card in the first place. Glad to see them make this game changer!
