Top Credit Card Higher than Normal Sign Up Bonuses for August 2016
The list has really trimmed down for this month. I really hope that it picks back up as we lead into the fall. That being said, 2016 has been a pretty good year for credit card sign up bonuses, so we were due for a break month. I expect that things will pick back up in the fall, as companies will want to close out the year strong.
Though I did add some of the smaller credit card promotions to the list that should have also been on last month‘s list.

Let me know if I missed any worthy credit card promotions!
Matthew…one quick question. With the changes that AMEX made, are you only eligible for one lifetime bonus per card, or for all cards combined. Example…I had the Gold Rewards card previously, so I don’t qualify for that bonus again. If I apply for a different AMEX card, would I be eligible for the bonus associated with that card? Thanks, and keep up the great work.
Hi David, yes, officially, the new rule is that you can only receive the sign up bonus once in your lifetime. Though rules can change!
Not sure this was actually answered. I believe it’s only specific a cards here, gold and plat come to mind. I don’t think spg has any restrictions but please advise here if that is the case.
Hi Jenny, here’s the wording for AMEX SPG: ”
This offer is only available to new Starwood Preferred Guest®* Credit Card from American Express Cardmembers. For current or former Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express Cardmembers, we may approve your application, but you will not be eligible for the welcome bonus.”
How about Amex AIR MILES®* Platinum Credit Card with FYF and 2000 Air Miles ($500 in 90 days). 2000 Air Miles = $210 (95 miles = 10$)
It’s a good sign up bonus, but it’s not a “higher than normal” promotion. It is the regular sign up bonus.
