Another Change in the Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Link
Marriott Rewards and Chase Canada have teamed up to offer a co-branded credit card that allows you to earn Marriott Rewards points. This is one generally known as one of the top credit card sign up bonuses out there.
If you apply through the regular link, this Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Visa card offers a 30,000 sign up bonus points. But there is also a special link for the 50,000 sign up bonus points instead. I can’t count how many times this link has changed.
Turns out that the most recent 50,000 sign up bonus link is now broken. The new rule is that everyone is only able to sign up for the 30,000 bonus, only Marriott Rewards Silver elite and above members can qualify to sign up for the 50,000 bonus, which you have to sign up through your Marriott Rewards account.
Here is a quick reminder of the highlights of the credit card:
- $120 annual fee (waived the first year)
- No annual fee additional cardholders
- Earn 30,000 sign up bonus points after your first purchase
- Earn 5 points for every $1 spent at Marriott hotels
- Earn 2 points for every $1 spent on airline tickets, car rental agencies and restaurants
- Earn 1 point for every $1 spent on all other purchases
- Earn 1 Free Night Stay at a Category 1-4 location after account approval
- Earn 15 nights credit every year
- Receive 1 anniversary bonus free night stay at a Category 1-5 hotel every year
- No foreign transaction fees
It was only a matter of time before they started preventing people from signing up through the 50,000 link. This is one of the most generous sign up bonuses out there for a credit card that waives its first year annual fee.
This is just another reminder not to contemplate a good deal for too long. If you see it, go for it while it is still available. If you suspect that it is too good to be true, then you should already know that it will be going away soon enough because everyone will catch on at some point. Usually, once everyone catches on, it is no longer profitable for a company and then they have to shut it down anyway.
I can’t really blame Chase for making such a move, I am actually surprised that it already lasted this long. If you are a Silver member and above of Marriott Rewards, I would go for this credit card while you still can. Who knows how much longer this option will last.
Can you get this bonus more then once. I cancelled about 5 months ago because it kept getting declined for security reasons when I traveled and because the annual fee was coming up. Can I apply again and get the sign up bonus? Or should I just get a different no FX credit card?
However, I think this may be the best no FX credit card in Canada
Hi Greg, here is the official wording: ” Bonus Points: Please allow 8 to 10 weeks after your first purchase for points to be posted to your Marriott Rewards account. This one-time bonus offer is valid only for first-time Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Cardmembers. Previous and existing Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Cardmembers are not eligible for this bonus offer. If your account is not kept open for at least 6 months, Marriott and Chase reserve the right to deduct the bonus points from your Marriott Rewards account.”
