[AIRPORT] Expansion Projects
I am a big fan of renovations and expansion projects. I really like to see new developments and upgrades, which would confirm that there is growth in the travel industry. What I would like to see to go along with such growth is more competition.
For the purposes of this post, I was just getting myself updated with some of the expansion projects across the country. Below are some of the significant ones:
Vancouver International Airport (YVR)
The Vancouver International Airport Authority has developed the 2007-2027 Master Plan. The plans looks 20 years into the future because it is expecting a lot of growth in the coming years.
St. John’s International Airport (YYT)
WestJet Airlines is now operating seasonal service to Dublin, Ireland (DUB). The flights will start in Toronto (YYZ), land for fueling and customer pickup in St. John’s, and then continue to Dublin. Furthermore, sometime in 2015, Air Transat is going to provide seasonal service to Cancun, Puerto Plata and Punta Cana.
The airport has an Airport Improvement and Expansion Plan between 2013 and 2023. It is always great to see a smaller airport gain so many new options.
Kelowna International Airport (YLW)
The Kelowna International Airport Advisory Committee created the Master Plan 2025. The Plan is expected to cost approximately $150 million to aid in keeping the airport at modern traffic handling standards.
