IHG PointsBreak (October 26, 2015 – January 31, 2016)

IHG Rewards has released another set PointsBreak offers that is valid from October 26, 2015 to January 31, 2016. This has always been my favourite hotel promotion, which reduces the number of points required for a reward night down to 5,000 points. IHG hotel categories range from 10,000 points to 50,000 points per night. That is what makes the Pointsbreak promotion so valuable. You can potentially find hotel rooms normally costing 30,000 or 40,000 points per night for only 5,000 points during the promotional period.

Note that these rooms are limited, so they are first come first serve. If you see something that you like, you should jump on it as soon as possible.

We normally value IHG points at 0.7 cents a piece. With this promotion, a $150 room for 5,000 will give you 3 cents per point in value, which is pretty sweet. What I like about redeeming hotel points, as opposed to airline miles, is that generally the points you redeem for a reward night include all the taxes and fees (exceptions include resort fee). So in Canada, where the sales taxes can be quite high in some provinces, this promotion feels even more valuable.

As you probably already know, as this is a Canadian centric blog, which is why I will only focus on the Canadian hotels. Unfortunately, we only make up a small part of the list. If you want to see the full list, visit the IHG site.
