List of Requirements for Attaining Hotel Elite Status (updated August 11, 2016)
A few updates to the hotel elite status programs means that this list is due for an update from last time. Some of the updates include: adding Le Club AccorHotels, changes to Best Western Rewards elite program, Delta Hotel and Resorts merger with Marriott, changes to the IHG Rewards Club program and changes to Wyndham Rewards.
But first, just a quick reminder, there are 3 main ways to achieve hotel elite status, through nights, points or stays.
- A night is self-explanatory, you need to remain at the hotel overnight for it to count as a night.
- A stay is basically a reservation. So regardless of the number of consecutive nights you remain at hotel, within the same reservation, it will still only count as one stay.
- Otherwise, the hotel may require you to earn a minimum of qualified points to achieve elite status.
Keep in mind that there are some exceptions, such as certain hotel co-branded credit cards (also dependent on credit cards offered in your home country) offer automatic elite status or spending bonuses to quality. Otherwise, below is summary of how to achieve hotel elite status on some of the major hotel rewards program. Note that the requirements based on a calendar year.

Do you have post where it goes over what are the best benefits you can get with status? With all the different programs? I’ve got Marriott points, BW points and status via AMEX Platinum but unsure how to fully take advantage of things
Hi ntcse,
It is actually a very highly personal question on what everyone feels is a best benefit, because it is more based on personal preferences and preferences can change based on specific trips. But I can look into the idea one day!
