Top 5 Credit Card Sign Up Bonuses for October 2015
We are in the middle of a long weekend. Some of us are probably very busy with family gatherings. Others of us may have some time to catch up on a few things. If you plan to catch up on updating your credit card portfolio, below is a list of the top 5 current offers that you can take advantage of:
RBC British Airways Visa Infinite Visa – $165 annual fee, earn 50,000 sign up bonus Avios. Receive the first 15,000 upon approval and another 35,000 when you spend $9,000 in the first 3 months.
The $9,000 spending requirement may seem a little steep to pay, but the 50,000 bonus Avios is well worth the $165 annual fee.
Chase Marriott Rewards Visa – $120 annual fee (first year fee waived), earn 50,000 sign up bonus points after your first purchase.
It has been a while since the last promotion with this credit card and while the IHG and Choice Privileges co-branded hotel credit cards discontinued, it is pretty slim pickings to load up on hotel points, so this a great offer to see.
MBNA Best Western Rewards Platinum Plus MasterCard – No annual fee, earn 40,000 Best Western Rewards points after your first purchase.
Same thought process as the Chase Marriott listed above. This is still an amazing promotion for loading up on hotel points.
American Express Gold Rewards Card – $150 annual fee (first year fee waived), earn 25,000 sign up bonus Membership Rewards points after spending $500 in the first 3 months.
I am so happy to see this credit card continuing to stay strong. This remains the top pick in terms of sign up bonuses to annual fee ratio, with the annual fee being waived and all. Just remember, the rules of changed and you can only receive the sign up bonus once in your lifetime, unless you are being referred by a friend (for the time being, this loophole may close up soon).
CIBC Aerogold Visa Card for Business – $180 annual fee (first year fee waived till October 31, 2015), earn 20,000 sign up bonus Aeroplan after your first purchase.
Aeroplan appears to be slim pickings for the moment, so this is a great option if you already have a business to help you qualify for this credit card.
An honourable mention goes to the American Express Business Gold Rewards Card which has a $250 annual fee (waived the first year) and earn 30,000 (40,000 if referred) sign up bonus points if you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months of having this credit card.
For the AMEX personal gold, if we self refer, do we still get to enjoy the welcome bonus? Or is this case by case basis?
That’s a good question. I think that it will need to be a trial an error. What i would do is self refer first and then before you even activate the card, find out if you qualify for the sign up bonus.
If I don’t activate the card, would I still get a credit pull?
It is a charged card, so the credit pull is a little different. Won’t be the same hit as a regular credit card application. But credit checks always happen during the review process before approval. The time you can inquire about the sign up bonus is after you submit the application, which is around the same time.
