Hotels Attached to Canadian Airport Terminals
UPDATE- Thanks to my readers in the comments below, it is worthwhile to note that the Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) has two hotels connected to the terminals: Sheraton Gateway Hotel In Toronto International Airport and Alt Hotel Toronto Airport.
Location is pretty much the biggest advantage of such hotels of an airport hotel. As you know, Canada can get pretty cold in the winter. So if you happen to have a layover in a Canadian airport and don’t feel like leaving the airport (so that you don’t have to pack a winter jacket), then these airports are the most optimal for such situations. Especially if you have a layover for 10 hours or less that goes overnight when airport lounges are closed.
Though unfortunately airport hotels are not very common in Canada, there are a handful of hotels that are conveniently located within an airport terminal. These hotels are usually pretty soundproofed for obvious reasons. These hotels usually offer some of the more luxurious amenities to help you be more comfortable while staying at the airport.
You will notice from the list below some keys cities that are missing from the list, including Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport (YOW), UPDATE- Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (YWG).
I look forward to seeing some new developments in the near future. Otherwise, this is the current line-up:
Vancouver: The Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel
This hotel is situated directly above the US departures terminal at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR). This hotel offers some of the most fantastic views of the surrounding area. They offer some useful amenities such as: Health Club with indoor pool, Day Spa (over 120 different treatments), meeting rooms, ability to host weddings, etc. There are also a wide variety of guest services including some interesting ones: babysitting, fish freezer and laundry services.
Calgary: Delta Calgary Airport In-Terminal Hotel
Located at the Calgary International Airport (YYC), this Delta Hotel is very conveniently located in the airport. The hotel offers lots of amenities including: pet service, fitness center, swimming pool (saltwater), whirlpool, meeting rooms and has the ability to handle weddings.
As we continue to see Delta Hotels get more and more integrated with Marriot, this hotel has now been classified as a Marriott Category 5 hotel, which costs 25,000 points per night.
Montreal: Montreal Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel
Location within the Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL), this hotel is a great option for staying overnight in the airport. The hotel offers a wide variety of amenities including: full service spa, fitness center, swimming pool, meeting rooms and has the ability to handle weddings.
This hotel has been classified as a Marriott Category 5 hotel, which costs 30,000 points per night.
Edmonton: Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel
Another Marriott hotel, this time located in the Edmonton International Airport (YEG). The hotel offers several amenities including: fitness center, swimming pool, meeting rooms and has the ability to handle weddings.
This hotel has been classified as a Marriott Category 4 hotel, which costs 25,000 points per night.
Halifax: Alt Hotel Halifax Airport Hotel
A very modern-style, eco-friendly, hotel, the Alt Hotel Halifax Airport Hotel is such a neat addition to the Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ). The building is designed energy efficient, uses geothermal heating and cooling system that recycles warm air, as well as automatic and energy-saving lighting devices.
This hotel really gives the Halifax airport is more up-class feeling. This is very impressive consider the airport services less than 4 million passengers per year.
Toronto YYZ has a hotel attached. The Sheraton hotel is attached to terminal 3. There is a free airtrain that links terminal 1 and 3.
As NYCFlyer75 said, you are missing the Sheraton that is attached to terminal 3 at YYZ. Obviously easier to forget if you fly AC/*A out of T1 a lot but for WestJetters and OWers it’s right there. it’s a very decent Sheraton.
YYZ also has an Alt Hotel attached to the Terminal Link people mover’s Viscount station. With the new Union Pearson Express train, downtown hotels like Delta Toronto are now connected to YYZ terminals without requiring you to step outdoors.
Thanks a lot everyone. I have added an update note mentioning the missing hotels. I will put a proper update of these hotels in a future post!
