Canadian Airline Series: Air Labrador

In today’s post, we will be introducing Air Labrador, an airline based in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It operates services throughout Labrador and Quebec and its main hub is the Goose Bay Airport. Air Labrador began operations in 1948 as Newfoundland Airways before rebranding as Air Labrador, making it one of the oldest airlines in Canada. Not only does Air Labrador provide passenger services, but the airline also provides cargo and charter services to remote communities in the country.

Reward Program

Air Labrador has introduced an Air Labrador Flight Reward Program on March 30 of this year. Air Labrador travelers can receive 50 bonus rewards points upon application of the program. Points are accumulated based on the fare of your ticket. Points can be used to redeem for free flights operated by Air Labrador. This makes Air Labrador the only airline in Labrador which offers a frequent flyer program. Unfortunately, since the program has recently been implemented the details are not too clear.

Types of Fares

Air Labrador offers four types of fares:

If you are flying to Newfoundland and Labrador, you will be permitted to two pieces of checked baggage free of charge and both not exceeding 25 lbs. If your baggage is overweight, it will be charged $2.26CAD per exceeding pound.

In May of this year, a provincial government-imposed landing fee will be placed for aircrafts which land on Labrador grounds. This fee will be $40 each time the airplane lands on Labrador territories and will begin on September 1st.. Based on an article by CBC News, Air Labrador makes approximately 40 landings per day for an entire year. This is quite discouraging for both the airline companies and passengers as Air Labrador happens to be one of the older successful operating airlines of the country.
