Earning CAA Rewards Dollars
In a previous post we wrote about the CAA Rewards and membership program. Different levels of membership give you different benefits. As you can use your CAA Reward dollars to make purchases at 164,000 participating locations, there are only a few select locations where you can earn these CAA Dollars. I will mention a few of them below.
You can earn CAA Dollars at the following locations:
Petro Canada
You must first register your CAA membership with Petro-Points to earn 20% more Petro Points than you regularly would. You can then convert 1,000 Petro Points to 1 CAA Dollar in which you can use towards your next membership renewal, travel and more.
CarProof Vehicle History Reports
When CAA Members present their CAA membership, they will receive $3.95 off the regular purchase of a CarProof Vehicle History Report and 6 CAA Dollars in which they can use towards membership renewal, travel and more. CAA Dollars will be credited to your membership account within 90 days or your purchase.
Best Western
When you present your CAA membership, you can earn 10 Best Western points for every dollar spent on qualified hotel room rates or you have the option to choose CAA Dollars. You will also receive a discount of 10% or more on room rates at Best Western hotels with the CAA hotel discount program. CAA members who book at bestwestern.com/caa will earn 10% bonus points. Between May 26th, 2015 and September 7th, 2015, if you register your membership with Best Western, you will earn 1,000 bonus welcome points with every qualified stay during that time period. Best Western will credit your account with CAA Dollars in $10 increments. 2210 Best Western Rewards points is equivalent to 10 CAA Dollars.
ComparAction
When CAA Members present their CAA membership, they will earn 10% in CAA Dollars on Home Phone or Long Distance services. So if you’re paying $50 per month for your Home Phone service, you will earn 5 CAA Dollars.
Teleflora
Present your CAA membership card and save 20% on flowers and gifts from Teleflora. You will also earn 5% in CAA Dollars for each purchase. Taxes and delivery fees are not considered as part of the purchase, so you will not earn CAA Dollars for that portion of the payment.
CAA Tickets Online
CAA members can save on select tickets and earn CAA Dollars when you pre-purchase your tickets online. Based on the information below, you will earn approximately 1 CAA Dollar per every $50 dollars spent.
Cleanol Integrated Services
When you present your CAA membership, you can earn 25 CAA Dollars on Enviro-Care Residential Services with a purchase of $199 or more.
CAA e-Store
Every time you present CAA membership, you can earn CAA Dollars on every purchase.
Depending on the type of purchases you make, you will earn at different rates. The screenshot above shows a few different rates of earnings. If you make a purchase at Canada Post, you will earn 5% back in CAA dollars, while if you make a purchase at BOGS, you will earn 7% back in CAA Dollars.
Member Discounts
Although not all places earn you CAA Dollars, as a CAA member you can receive discounts at various locations including VIA Rail, Amtrak, Embassy Suites, Four Points by Sheraton, Hyatt, Hilton Garden Inn, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Marriort, Le Meridien, Sheraton, Ritz-Carlton and more!

How Valuable are CAA Rewards
Let’s take a look at Petro Canada as an example. If 1,000 Petro-Points converts into 1 CAA Dollar, and we wanted to purchase a short-haul ticket at $300, it would cost us 300,000 Petro-Points. Looking back at our previous post, Petro-Points have been valued at 0.9 cents a point at its minimum. This means that if we were to earn the same 300,000 Petro-Points for a short haul ticket, it would only be valued at $270 (0.9 cents X 300,000). Ultimately, we are getting a better value with our CAA Dollar conversion. This is also dependent on how you would like to use your points and how you earned them as this can change the value of your rewards.
The bottom line is, just being a CAA member can earn you discounts at various places, including travel services, automotive services, entertainment, retail and accommodation. If you wish to earn CAA Rewards, this could offer you great return depending on how you value your priorities. Personally, I would take advantage of the CAA Membership perks and use a premium credit card to maximize the greatest return for myself.
