Recap of Miles and Points Temporary Extensions
Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, airline and hotel loyalty programs have paused/extended expiry policies to their miles and points. Today’s post is a current snapshot of the state of these programs.

Below is a current recap of the miles and points expiry extensions:
Air Canada / Aeroplan
- Normally no expiry as long as there is an activity (earn or redeem) once every 12 months.
- OFFER: Aeroplan miles expiry are on paused until July 14, 2020.
Air Miles
- Normally no expiry as long as there is an activity (earn or redeem) once every 24 months.
- OFFER: Miles expiry is extended by 2 months from the regular 24 months of inactivity.
Alaska Airlines
- Normally no expiry as long as there is an activity (earn or redeem) once every 24 months.
- NO current offers.
American Airlines
- Normally no expiry as long as there is an activity (earn or redeem) once every 18 months.
- NO current offers.
Best Western
- Normally no expiry policy.
British Airways
- Normally no expiry as long as there is an activity (earn or redeem) once every 36 months.
- NO current offers.
Cathay Pacific
- Normally no expiry as long as there is an activity (earn or redeem) once every 18 months.
- NO current offers.
Choice Hotels
- Normally no expiry as long as there is an activity (earn or redeem) once every 18 months.
- OFFER: points expiry paused until December 31, 2020.
Cineplex
- Normally no expiry as long as there is an activity (earn or redeem) once every 24 months.
- NO current offers.
Delta Air Lines
- Normally no expiry policy.
Hilton
- Normally no expiry as long as there is an activity (earn or redeem) once every 12 months.
- OFFER: expiration of all points are paused until December 31, 2020.
Hyatt
- Normally no expiry as long as there is an activity (earn or redeem) once every 24 months.
- OFFER: expiration of points are suspended from forfeiture through December 31, 2020.
IHG Hotels and Resorts
- Normally no expiry as long as there is an activity (earn or redeem) once every 12 months.
- Points never expire for all members with Elite status members, for everyone else,
- OFFER: points expiry are paused until December 31, 2020.
Marriott Hotels and Resorts
- Normally no expiry as long as there is an activity (earn or redeem) once every 24 months.
- OFFER: points expiration are paused until February 2021.
Porter Airlines
- Normally no expiry as long as there is an activity (earn or redeem) once every 24 months.
- NO current offers.
United Airlines
- Normally no expiry policy.
VIA Rail
- Normally no expiry policy.
WestJet
- Normally no expiry policy, except on limited time offers.
Wydham Hotels and Resorts
- Normally points expire after 4 years regardless of activity. Points also expiry if there is no activity after 18 months.
- OFFER: expiration of points are paused until September 30, 2020.
