[TRAVEL] Uber to Continue Rideshare Services in Canada

In a previous post, I mentioned that Uber services will be partnering with Starwood to earn extra miles while using the ridesharing service. This seems to have some limitations as many Uber drivers around the world have been charged for using an unlicensed service.

Fortunately, Canada seems to have a positive outlook on this business model. See link. Although it has been banned in Vancouver and Calgary and critiqued by municipal officials, its services continue to stride in Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. Uber hopes to mend these strained relations with government officials with intentions to further expansion.

For those travelling the country, you can continue to use Uber’s rideshare service to take you to your destination and earn Starwood points at the same time. For every $1 spent, you will earn one Starwood point as a Starwood Preferred Guest member. This partnership will differentiate Uber from other rideshare services.

As part of their current marketing campaign, Uber Toronto has input a roadside breathalyzer in which clients can determine whether they are fit for driving or not. If your blood alcohol content is above the legal limit, an Uber vehicle will be sent to your location for pick up. Government officials continue to support the mobile app operated company as its business model sets itself apart from local taxi services. You can see that the company has been proven lucrative as it currently operates in over 300 cities and continuously expands into Canada.
