[ANALYSIS] Using Sears Club Points
Sears Canada has been on a downward spiral for a few a while now and there has even been chatter than they might shut down completely in Canada.
Below are some articles regarding the downfall of Sears in Canada:
- Is Sears Canada planning more fire sales?
- Sears Canada may be doomed but it could still be with us for years
- Sears Canada Losses Double; Weather, Store Closures To Blame
What caught my attention even more is the chatter about Sears Canada possibly being sold:
- Sears Canada may be sold by U.S. parent
- Can Sears Create Value by Cutting the Cord With Canada?
- Sears Canada for sale, but there may not be much to sell: analysts
As a result, I have decided not to earn any Sears Club points. I do not even shop at Sears, except when a store is closing and they have some great closing deals. I’ve talked a lot about diversification throughout the blog. There is a slight chance that Sears Canada can be shut down in the next few years and the loyalty program would go with it.
Keep in mind that we already seen a devaluation to its loyalty program that was effective on February 19, 2014 where we can no longer exchange Sears Club Points & Petro Points.
So I would be a little more cautious about which points I earn. For the time being, the program should be safe, but I wouldn’t wait too long to cash in the points so that you don’t risk losing all the points.
