Coolest Looking Credit Cards
Have you ever signed up for a credit card because you thought the design on the card was really cool and you just needed to add that to your collection? I definitely have. This happened when I went to my very first live Ottawa Senators game at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa and I noticed they were booths set up for the Ottawa Senators MasterCard offered by MBNA.
I saw the amazing logo they had put on the front of the card and immediately jumped on the application. The card came the week after in the mail and it’s been sitting with the hockey collection in my room since. It was definitely an impulse action on my part; great job MBNA, you got me on the design. Oh, and the fact that I am a die-hard Ottawa Senators fan.
Below is my opinion on some of the coolest looking credit cards out there on the market right now.
Capital One Aspire Travel World Elite MasterCard
What I love about the design of this card is that it is a very simple design, but yet it somehow manages to make the card appear classy while pulling it out. The font chosen for this card is bold and contemporary; the white wording against the black automatically allows you to identify what the card is from a distance.
Scotiabank ScotiaGold Passport Visa Card
I love the way they placed a compass on the background of the card to indicate how far we can go with the card, yet have the tools to find our way back home in the end. The colour they used gives off a bit of the historical traditional feeling going back into the past when we didn’t have access to a GPS. Though I think if I was Scotiabank, I would have borrowed the design from the BMO Air Miles World Elite MasterCard.
American Express Blue Sky Card
It’s been known as the anti-loyalty card as it does not offer premium benefits like other travel cards, but its design definitely adds value to its existence. Many of my friends who own the card have been attracted by the card’s transparent appearance. The card’s hologram, when placed in the light, gives off a sky like feeling, especially with the tracks of an aircraft travelling across the card. This unique concept distances itself from other credit card designs.
TD Business Travel Visa Card
A design of an airplane taking flight stamped on the front of your card, it can’t get any cooler than that. The appearance of this credit card is perfect for travel.
BMO Air Miles World Elite MasterCard
I am a huge fan of stamps and collected them as a child, so I love the design on the BMO Air Miles World Elite MasterCard. It’s very subtle and at first glance, you would not notice that it was passport stamps. The way that it is angled gives it quite the contemporary feeling and immediately you would make the assumption that the card fits into the travel category.
This last one is a personal favourite.
MBNA University of Ottawa MasterCard
The photo of the campus has become high-definition, but it is still what I remembered it to be, along with some new buildings which were built during my time away from University. As a first-year student, a credit card with my University campus and logo stamped on it was definitely one to catch my attention.
Remember to keep in mind that a “cool” looking credit card may not necessarily offer you the most appropriate benefits for your spending needs. The appearance of a credit card is mainly used as a tool for marketing purposes. Additionally, the qualification of a particular credit card will still need to be based on your credit score.
The bottom line is, I have learned that there are a lot of cool looking cards meant to be kept at home (framed in my room somewhere) and do not hold enough benefits to assist my spending and travel needs.
However, that doesn’t mean that all of them are useless or not worth keeping in your wallet. A card like the Capital One Aspire Travel World Elite MasterCard offers great benefits like a 10,000 miles sign-up bonus with earnings of 2 reward milers per every dollar spent. As an Aspire Travel World Elite MasterCard owner, you will also have access to premium travel insurance such as emergency medical, trip cancellation, trip interruption, flight delay, baggage loss, baggage delay, travel accident, and car rental collision insurance. And on the plus side, it’s a cool-looking card.
