Hotel Elite Status and Points Expiry Extensions

IHG is the latest hotel chain to extend its elite statuses and expiry policy, which rounds out the majority of the major hotel chains. Note that we also have an ongoingly updated page found on our menu bar.

Below is a current recap of the elite status and points expiry extensions offer by some of the major hotel chains.

Best Western

  • Current elite statuses (i.e. earned in 2019) will extended through January 31, 2022 without needing to fulfil the necessary qualifications.
  • Points never expire.

Choice Hotels

  • Points expiry paused until May 31, 2020.

Hilton

  • All 2019 elite status that were scheduled to be downgraded on March 31, 2020 were automatically extended to March 31, 2021.
  • The 2020 elite statuses will be extended to March 31, 2022.
  • Expiration of all points are paused until December 31, 2020.

Hyatt

  • Current elite statuses (i.e. earned in 2019) expiring on February 28, 2021 will automatically be extended to February 28, 2022.
  • Expiration of points are suspended from forfeiture through December 31, 2020.

IHG Hotels and Resorts

  • Current elite statuses (i.e. earned in 2019) will be automatically extended through January 31, 2022.
  • Points never expire for all members with Elite status members, for everyone else, points expiry are paused until December 31, 2020.

Marriott Hotels and Resorts

  • Current elite statuses (i.e. earned in 2019) will be extended to February 2022.
  • Points expiration are paused until February 2021. At that time, points will only expire if an account has been inactive for at least 24 months.

Wydham Hotels and Resorts

  • Current elite status are extended through to December 31, 2021.
  • Expiration of Wyndham Rewards points are paused until September 30, 2020.
