IHG’s Pointsbreak Released (April 30, 2018 – July 31, 2018)
IHG has released its latest Pointsbreak program, which runs from April 30, 2018 – July 31, 2018. This is the second time that IHG released its new version of Pointsbreak. In the past, all hotels on the list can be redeemed for 5,000 points per night. However, they revamped their list to include discounts of down to 10,000 or 15,000 points per night as well.
For sure this is a devaluation, compared to the previous 5,000 points only. Unfortunately, this time around, there is an embarrassingly small list of Canadian hotels to choose from. This is disappointing to see, especially compared to last round, which started off strong for Canadian hotels.
In terms of Canadian hotels specifically, below is the list to choose from (complete list here):
ALBERTA, CANADA
- Holiday Inn Lethbridge (normally 20,000 points per night; now 10,000)
ONTARIO, CANADA
- Holiday Inn & Suites Ottawa Kanata (normally 30,000 points per night; now 15,000)
As for the rest of the world, seems like there are still some decent options to choose from, but you may only find them on the 15,000 points list. It was only a matter of time before this devaluation hit. On the other hand, if this is the compromise versus completely shutting Pointsbreak down, then I am still happy this is still going on.
Wow that is one sad list. Maybe we should send them a globe so they can see how big Canada is.
I hate to say it, but I am wondering if it is because there is a low demand for Canadian hotels in general, so no point adding them to the list.
