[PROMOTION] Aeroplan Conversion Bonus (November 11 to December 9, 2013) (expired)
From November 11 to December 9, 2013, you can convert your loyalty points into Aeroplan points and receive up to a bonus 25% return. The conversion works as follows:
The list of transfer partners include:
Hotels: Starwood Preferred Guest, Marriott Rewards, Hilton HHonors, Club Carlson, Best Western Rewards, Wyndham Rewards, Choice Privileges, Le Club Accorhotels (Accor hotels), Coast Rewards and Golden Circle Award (Shangri-La Hotels).
Car Rentals: Hertz Gold Plus Rewards
Other: Diner’s Club Rewards, Points.com
It is quite a disappointing list because all the credit card companies are missing, especially the American Express Membership Rewards program, which has not been on the list since 2011 and it looks like it won’t make the list in 2013. You have to wonder if it will ever make it back onto the list.
Keep in mind that every member can only earn a maximum of 25,000 bonus Aeroplan points. If you are looking to top up your Aeroplan account, now is a great time to do it. But if you only converting for the sake of converting, you might want to hold off, because you might get better value out of your points where they are. I would only convert my points to Aeroplan if I had a flight in mind and I need those extra points to bump me up to that particular ticket. Always remember to do the math before you make such a decision to see how you can get the best value for your points.
For example, I just finished writing about the 25% bonus on purchasing Starpoints. Now you can get the full 29,000 when you convert 20,000 Starpoints. If you have even more available points, if you can convert 80,000 Starpoints, you would gain 20,000 built-in SPG bonus, to put you at 100,000 Aeroplan points, which qualifies you for the 25,000 Aeroplan bonus. Therefore, 80,000 Starpoints nets you 125,000 Aeroplan points. Not a bad deal, but you might actually get more value out of your 80,000 Starpoints for something else, depending on how you spend your points. Do the math!
