Aeroplan Website Make-Over

Aeroplan just made an update to its website. It looks a lot cleaner now. The most noticeable difference is the white background. It will probably help load the page much quicker now.

New Background

Name Changed: Fixed Mileage Flight Rewards

Previously known as ClassicFlight Rewards, now it has been renamed to Fixed Mileage Flight Rewards.

 

I just hope that the name change also comes with more reward flights available in this category. We all know that Market Fare Flight Rewards (which kept the same name) are way too pricey for the average Aeroplan collector to redeem their points for such rewards.

Self-Serve Tools

It has been known for some time now that Aeroplan planned to upgrade some of its systems. They now have the self-serve tools, which notably includes “View or cancel upcoming bookings” and”Select Seats” as shown below.

These are some interesting new options for Aeroplan. I am always happy to see positive updates to websites to help enhance the customers’ experience. These are all definitely steps in the right direction.

Cancellation and Changes Policy

It may be worthwhile to know the changes and cancellation policies to an Aeroplan reward flight. Within 2 hours of scheduled departure, changes/cancellations of a flight reward are not permitted. The flight reward mileage will be forfeited.

• Changes affecting the flight date(s), flight time(s), class of service, routing and/or itinerary of a reward flight may be made up to a minimum of 2 hours prior to departure along with a $90+taxes fee.
• Changes affecting the region, destination, class of service, flight date, flight time, seasonality, advance purchase or minimum/maximum stay of a reward flight may result in additional mileage being required from the original flight reward.
• Conversely, if the reward flight changes results in a lower mileage level than the original flight reward, the mileage difference is forfeited.
• Unused flight reward tickets can be cancelled up to a minimum of 2 hours prior to scheduled departure and will remain valid for one year from the date of issue. At time of re-booking, a $90+taxes fee will applied.

These are not very popular policies, so keep them in mind so that you can avoid them.

Conclusion

I know that Aeroplan gets a lot of heat for its program, myself included, namely because it is well known for high taxes and fuel surcharges for its reward flights, especially when flying with Air Canada. That being said, there is still a lot of value to be had with Aeroplan if you can leverage your miles with other Star Alliances members on international flights.

If you manage to make your reservations well ahead of time and flexible with the dates, you can usually find some great value with the points.
