I will be looking to update this list every time I see some significant movement in the industry. This is the third time that this is being updated (February and March).

Today, the credit card portfolio that I will be suggested is for people who spend about $2,000 a month on all their credit card bills put together. This is generally for small families of about 4 people, (2 adults and 2 children). The following is an approximate spending breakdown that I will work with:

Building a Credit Card Portfolio (around $500 spending per month)

Back in 2014, we built a suggested credit card portfolio for people who spend about $500 per month. With all the changes in the industry, I though it’s time to update my suggestion. I will also be updated my suggested portfolios for the $2,000 and $5,000+ monthly spending as well. For this portfolio, it is mostly for people who live at home with their parents, so let’s say they have this approximate spending:

I did not think that I was going to be updating this post so quickly, but enough has changed from last month that it warrants an update. Every time there are some significant movements in the credit card industry, I plan on updating the rankings of this post. You will notice that under every credit card companies’ explanation for its ranking, I will be listing some of its top credit cards to choose from.

This is not going to be an easy post to write, but I did want to try to pin each financial institution against each other to see how they fair. This is going to be a very subjective post where I am going to rank each each company based on their overall credit card portfolio. I am also going to list out some of the top credit cards offered by each institution.

Credit Card Strategy for a Falling Canadian Dollar

The Canadian dollar is really taking a pounding against the U.S. dollar, so what should we do for our credit card portfolio as Canadians? In the past, the best credit cards to use for all foreign based transaction is to use the Chase Canada credit cards, as most of them waived the foreign transaction fees.

Building a Cash Back Credit Card Portfolio

There have been a slew of credit cards being discontinued in Canada. The trend seems to be co-branded credit cards. So now I am wondering if it would make sense to shift towards a cash back credit card portfolio rather than focusing so much on earning miles and points.

[DISCONTINUED] Rogers First Rewards to be Discontinued and Introduction of the Rogers Bank Platinum MasterCard

The Rogers First Rewards program was very short lived. The telecommunications company only really got its rewards program up and running in early 2014. Less than 2 years later, they plan to discontinue the program, more specifically on December 1, 2015. Thankfully, instead of cancelling our points, they will be transferring the rewards to the Rogers Platinum MasterCard cash back account, assuming that you have the credit card.
