The saying goes, when one door closes, another one opens. That seems to be the story of Greyhound Canada closing its doors and opening up opportunities with Megabus. Today, we have the opportunity to interview Colin Emberson, Vice President of Retail for Megabus who will share their expansion plans of its existing service in Canada. Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Colin!
1)Please tell us about yourself and your role with Megabus?
I’m Colin Emberson, the VP of Retail for Megabus.
2) What is Megabus about and what services do you offer in Canada?
Megabus offers city to city express bus service across North America. We’re proud to have operated our highly regarded Canadian service for more than 60 years and we have hubs in Toronto and Montreal offering bus travel throughout Ontario and Quebec. We are all about the safety of our customers while also offering a convenient and affordable way for Canadians to travel. Another key commitment of ours is providing eco-friendly travel and reducing our carbon footprint whenever possible. Our buses emit the least carbon dioxide per mile when compared to other vehicles and are seven times more energy and fuel-efficient than single-occupancy automobiles. Our buses are three times more efficient in reducing carbon dioxide output when compared to commuter rail, and six times more efficient than transit buses.
3) We understand that are expanding your services in Canada? Can you tell us more?
Yes, we are thrilled to be expanding to offer much needed travel between Ottawa and Toronto, Scarborough and Kingston. Our newest route will offer double-decker bus service four days a week from Thursday through Sunday. We’re also really excited to announce that all tickets on the new Ottawa route will be absolutely FREE for the first week of service. There are many reasons for essential travel throughout Canada right now and this is our way of supporting the community during a difficult time. Tickets are on sale today on our website for travel since May 20, 2021.
4) What can we look forward to with Megabus?
We’re always looking for ways to expand our network and offer even more convenient travel options across Canada. As travel restrictions begin to lift, we look forward to continuing to provide the best service possible to our loyal customers.
5) Any closing thoughts?
As always, our priority is ensuring safe and convenient travel, but we’re even more mindful of this mantra in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re offering a guaranteed empty seat next to each customer to ensure more personal space on board along with enhanced cleaning. We’re also allowing ticket flexibility to help customers through the uncertain times.
