JetBlue Coming to Canada?

Looks like there are plans in the works to expand JetBlue into Canada.

The goal is to first launch JetBlue’s at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) starting in the summer of 2022.  There are still ways to go before this becomes effective, but this is really good news for British Columbia residents looking for direct flights to:

  • New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport
  • Boston Logan International Airport

The more medium term plans include expansion to the U.S. Midwest, Southeast, Texas and Latin American.

Expected Fares

Even though JetBlue is considered a low-cost carrier (we know what happened with Target’s expansion to Canada), there are already warnings that the prices may not fully reflect that. Flights coming and leaving Canada may have higher prices (than domestic US flights) due to our higher fuel taxes and airport charges.

Thoughts

Even though there is a potential blimp on airfares, I am just excited to see a new airline come into Canada to compete. It can only be good news for consumers. Either way, I just hope that they find a way to stay competitive so that they can expand their service across the country.

At the very least, I am expecting that TrueBlue members (JetBlue’s frequent flyer program) will take advantage of flights to Canada when they happen to be coming.

What about you? Will you give JetBlue a try? Please let us know in the comment section below.

  1. I live in Florida…….and there are tons of Canadians who have homes here and live her up to 6 months a year. I would be a nice option for us out of Sarasota (with one stop in Boston or JFK) to get to Canada. Another way to use those Jet Blue miles.
