Pointshogger Refreshed! Almost 10 years later, what’s next?

Pointshogger About Us Cover Photo

We are closing in on our 10 year anniversary in the fall of this year. I cannot believe what a journey it has been. There are days when I feel like we just got started.

We are looking at different ways to celebrate this year’s anniversary. First up, we refreshed our site, hoping that it will be more user-friendly.

For today’s post, we would like to share a recap of our past, current and future thoughts!

How we started

In my profile I mentioned that my interest in the miles and points world really began back in 1992 when Air Miles was introduced to the market. Fast forward about 15 years, my American Airlines AAdvantage miles were about to expire and I was looking at ways to keep my account active. I was looking for a relatively simple and free way to get it done. Through my research, I discovered E-Rewards survey program, which has a transferable points program. Since then, I got more interested in the topic of miles and points and started reading more literature. Back then, there was a limited amount of Canadian content. Fast forward a few more years, I really cranked up my interest to the point that I felt like blogging. So in the fall of 2013, Pointshogger was born!

Over the past 10 years

Over the past 10 years, we have flipped flopped a little bit on what Pointshogger should evolve to. We had our fair share of heat for not pushing things to the next level since the Pointshogger team have other commitments in our lives. So we settled on a niche of focusing on simplifying the miles and points world. Most people we encountered were very intimidated by the whole industry and this trend continues till this day.

We really want Pointshogger to be the beginning of your journey into a much bigger world. Hopefully our posts are basic enough for you to feel like you can dip your toes in. Once we help with getting your feet wet, we are more than happy to refer you to the next level as there are many other bloggers in Canada who are a few steps up!

Our favourite bloggers

Currently, there are 5 Canadian bloggers who are highly active and really set themselves apart. Hopefully Pointshogger has simplified things to the point that you are more interested in levelling your skills up so that you can see the unlimited potential in the rewards world!

We ourselves are huge fans of fellow bloggers below, so we highly recommend that you check them out too!

There are days when we have thought about retiring Pointshogger. But these bloggers have all remained consistent and improved so much over the years that they inspired us to keep going as well.

Moving forward

Unfortunately, due to our continued commitments towards other endeavours, we may not be able to elevate Pointshogger to a level that you might wish to see. For the most part, we do plan to continue to be consistent with the goal of inspiring new readers to a much bigger world of rewards.

That being said, one thing that we would love to expand a lot more is our Interview Series. We hope to continue to feature more bloggers and companies on our site, as well as follow up interviews with them to see how they have progressed. If you are either a blogger or a company, feel free to reach out to us so that we can feature you on our site!

Hearing from you

Back to the topic of the day. What are your thoughts about our new layout? We will continue with tweaks throughout the year. In the meantime, feel free to let us know if there are any suggestions or upgrades that you would like to see on our new layout. Please reach out to us or share with us in the comment section below!
