SPG Keyless Program
Starwood Hotels & Resorts has introduced the SPG Keyless Program in which you can use your mobile phone to get into your hotel room.
How it Works
First you will need to download the SPG App. After you have done this, you will be directed to a page in which you can click called the “SPG Keyless Registration”. This will be located on the homescreen of your SPG App. Before you can use the keyless program, you will need to register your phone.
SPG Keyless program is compatible with iPhone 4s and above and Android mobile devices which run on Flavor 4.3 or above. You can find the complete list of compatible mobile devices below:
In order to use the SPG Keyless program, you will need to be an SPG loyalty program member with a valid account, email address, credit card and finally, a registered mobile device. Reservations which will use the SPG Keyless program may only be used for one room and be booked through the Starwood channel.
You will need to opt into the keyless program before your arrival date. If your stay is eligible for use with the SPG Keyless program, you will get a push notification. If you don’t receive a push notification, you may need to check your Bluetooth as this is needed.
After you opt in, your room will be prepared and another notification will be sent to you with the room number. Once you have received access to your mobile room key, you can then unlock your hotel room with your mobile device. In order to verify if your door is unlocked, the flashing green light on your mobile device will turn solid and vibrate.
When you check out, your virtual mobile key will become deactivated and will automatically remove itself from your SPG App.
Participating Locations in Canada
The SPG Keyless Program will only work with select hotels around the world. I will name the participating ones in Canada: Aloft Calgary University, Aloft Montreal Airport, Aloft Vaughan Mills, and W Montreal.
The bottom line is, the SPG Keyless Program allows you to check in from your mobile device, activate your room key and go straight to your hotel room. There is absolutely no human contact involved. This eliminates the process of waiting in line to check in with the front desk agent and having to hold a physical key in your hands. Everything is located on your phone, so you never have to worry about losing your key or misplacing it. This seems to be a great program offered by SPG and I am excited to try it out at my next stay with Starwood.
