Comparing Canada, British and USA Executive Club Credit Cards

If you have been following my series, I have mostly been comparing similar Canada versus US based credit cards. Today, I think that it will be fun to add a third country in the mix. I will be writing about the British Airways, Executive Club co-branded credit cards. Below are the 4 credit cards that we will be comparing. Also, it is only fitting as the Canadian and US cards are offering a higher than normal sign up bonus.

Thoughts on the Aeroplan and Air Canada Breakup

Based on the wording from an Aeroplan news release, it may seem like the the door is left open for them to renew their contract. I mean, there is still 3 years to go before it expires. So for the time being, it is business as usual for Aeroplan members.

From Air Canada’s perspective, they seem more firm that their plan is to launch its own loyalty program.

WestJet To Buy Boeing 787 Dreamliners

It looks like WestJet is planning on stepping up its game by buying twenty 787 Boeing Dreamliners to increase their international routes. Expect to see more direct routes from Canada to Asia, Europe and South America.

The news has been out for a while now, but the first delivery of 10 planes only arrive between the first quarter of 2019 and the end of 2021. There is an option for the additional 10 Dreamliners that would be delivered between 2020 and 2024.

Frustrations with Aeroplan… What to do about it!

This is more of a continuation of Avery’s post (Aeroplan has a little problem…) from DTCA about problems with Aeroplan.

Normally, I much prefer not writing any negative posts, because this blog is suppose to be about maximizing rewards with some tips and tricks. But when we hit too many roadblocks, it may feel like our suggestions are not even useful.

United Airline’s Turn to Offer $10,000 to Bumped Passengers

In response to the the incident of forcibly removing a passenger off one of their flights, United Airlines has also (started with Delta Air Lines) adopted a higher offer to bumped passengers. Passengers can now receive up to $10,000 of compensation (travel credit to be used on United Airlines flights).

Once again, I do question the profitability of this move. An interesting stat in the article states:

Delta Air Lines will offer up to $9,950 to Passengers on Overbooked Flights

How crazy is that? CBC published an article reporting that Delta Airline is going to offer up to $9,950 to passengers on overbooked flights. Note that the offer is broken down as follows:

Gate agents – up to $2,000 (up from previous $800)
Supervisors – up to $9,950 (up from previous $1,350)
