The Canadian dollar is really taking a pounding against the U.S. dollar, so what should we do for our credit card portfolio as Canadians? In the past, the best credit cards to use for all foreign based transaction is to use the Chase Canada credit cards, as most of them waived the foreign transaction fees.

There have been a slew of credit cards being discontinued in Canada. The trend seems to be co-branded credit cards. So now I am wondering if it would make sense to shift towards a cash back credit card portfolio rather than focusing so much on earning miles and points.

If Annual Fees Were not an Issue

It’s no secret that annual fees are a nuisance. However, in some cases there are enough perks associated with certain credit cards to justify annual fees. Furthermore, if annual fees were not an issue, I would probably not care as much about churning credit card as much, so in some cases, I would simply renew the credit card. If annual fees weren’t an issue, I would probably be travelling much more often, which is why my portfolio may seem more travel centric.

Scotiabank Momentum Infinite Visa First Year Fee Waived Promotion (expired)

I was wondering what Scotiabank would do at the end of its June 30, 2015 deadline for its first year fee waived promotion on its Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite Card. I’m not sure which part of the country that you live in, but wherever I go, I feel that my grocery bill consistently grows, regardless of how hard I try to find things on discount. Seeing as food is a necessity, it is certain that it is a big chuck of our monthly bills.
