Matt has been an avid points collector since 1992 (an elementary school student), when his dad signed up for the new (at the time) Air Miles program. Since then, Matt took a keen interest in learning how the miles and points world works. He quickly found out that there is a lot of value in leveraging miles and points to fund his passion for travelling.

Top Cash Back Credit Card Offers for October 2019

You will notice for this month’s list, there are quite a few promotional offers that finish at month end. So if you are interested in something, now would be the time to jump on the offers. There is no way to know what will happen come November 1, 2019. Some offers can be extended (e.g. TD cash back offer from last month), terminated or changed something else.

I have split the list into two categories. One with a limited time (but no end date offer) and another one with a limited time offer.

Top Credit Card Higher than Normal Sign Up Bonuses for October 2019

Another month, but barely any changes from last month. However, most offers end at the end of the most. So if you are thinking about certain cards, you may want to consider getting them now. Chances are, some cards may extend their promotions, are offer something new. But if you have been on the fence about certain offers, this is the last month.

At the moment, the competition is mainly between BMO, CIBC, Scotiabank and TD. Would love to see some of the other credit card companies step up their game.

Credit Cards that Waive Foreign Fees (updated September 27, 2019)

It has been over a year and a half since I last updated this post, I thought it was due for an update, as there were several changes in the industry. I am going to change this post a little from last time. In the post, I wrote about the Rogers Bank cards that gave a higher multiplier bonus for foreign purchases. But going forward, my post will focus only on cards who waive foreign transaction fees.

Best Current First Year Fee Waived Cards for September 2019

First year fee waived offers are amazing, because it allows you to try a card for one year (less one day) without incurring an annual fee. Once you get used to it, you can decide whether you want to continue with the card the subsequent years. Often times, cards offer enough additional benefits to justify paying the annual fee year after year. Other times, not so much.

For this month, I am going with the featured card theme, as there is a card that I did not ever expect to waive its annual fee.

Thoughts on Canada’s Air Passenger Protection Regulation

CBC recently published a story about two stories of people who received compensation for being denied boarding. One from Air Canada and another from WestJet. It took some work to receive their share of the compensation, no shortage of frustrations, but they finally received what they felt they were owed.

Basically, the Federal Government enacted a new law for more passenger protection. The new law comes into effect in two phases:

Since July 15, 2019, airlines have been required to meet new obligations concerning communication, denied boarding, tarmac delay, baggage and the transportation of musical instruments.
On December 15, 2019, the remaining obligations will come into effect.
