Top Credit Card Higher than Normal Sign Up Bonuses for February 2019

Many of the 2018 offers are about to expire at the end of this month, so there are not too many changes from last month’s list. I did however changed the format of how I list the credit cards.

Starting next month, we can expect to see some changes or extensions to current offers. Either way, below is the current list.

Top Credit Cards to use at Restaurants (updated January 27, 2019)

As we approach Valentine’s Day, restaurants usually expect a little more business. There is still time to apply for the right card for that day. Below are the top picks.

I have classified the credit cards in different categories and ranked them by their annual fees.

Best Current First Year Fee Waived Cards for January 2019

Let’s get the New Year going with the latest first year fee waived cards. Having the first year fee waived is valuable because it allows people to try out a credit card without worrying about the fee before deciding whether the fee is warranted.

Just like the other two lists, most of the current offers are carried over from last year.

Top Cash Back Credit Card Offers for January 2019

This is the first cash back list of the new year, so expect that most of the offers are carried over from 2018.

I must say, 2018 was an amazing year for cash back credit cards. Can they top it this year?

Personally, I still rather collect miles and points. So my hope is that the competitive cash back market is going to put pressure on partnerships with airlines and hotels to up their game. That being said, I feel slightly pessimistic about this hope because it does seem like the industry is going to continue to shift towards more cash back. Here’s hoping that I am wrong!

My 2019 Predictions for the Miles and Points World

Back in 2016, I began a new tradition of trying to predict the rewards world. The first year was rough, but it got better (2017, 2016). Let’s see how I did this year and my predictions for the following year.

Highest Current Cash Back Promotions (at least 5% and up)

As you already know, we publish a monthly Top Cash Back Credit Card Offers. That mostly lists higher than normal bonus promotions. However, with several significant cash back offers, I thought I’d give another type of list a try. The reason is because the industry seems to be putting a lot more emphasis on cash back offers.

Since Pointshogger is about maximing rewards for Canadians, I’ve always told myself that if the industry were to ever shift towards cash back, miles and points would have to take a back set. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you see it) in Canada, there were many co-branded airline and hotel credit cards that have discontinued over the past few years.
