Ranking the Credit Card Portfolios of Each Canadian Financial Institutions (updated December 1, 2017)

A few significant changes occurred in the credit card scene since the last update, so it is time for me to update the list.

Usually, I write more of a summary on what is happening with the company. However, this time around, I will write more about what I would like to see from each company.

Please share your thoughts on what improvements you would like to see to the credit card market in the comment section below!

Top United States Credit Cards Offered in Canada (updated November 28, 2017)

I may not update this list very frequently, but every now and then, there are some significant changes to the industry. Not to mix up with U.S. based credit cards, below is a list of Canadian credit cards that allow you to make purchases in U.S. currency (which essentially avoids foreign transaction fees), but you would need to pay off the balance with USD.

The first thought would be that it makes not sense to get this credit card if you do not have any US currency savings or USD income. I would recommend this credit card Canadians who have a USD income, but unable to apply for US based credit cards (which is the preferred method).

30% Transfer Bonus from RBC Rewards to British Airways Executive Club

Not quite the 50% that I was hoping for, but still glad to see some transfer bonus still alive. RBC Rewards is currently offering a 30% transfer bonus to British Airways Executive Club.

This offer, which runs between November 15, 2017 to December 31, 2017, is only valid to RBC Avion cardholders, not just any RBC Rewards credit card. Valid credit cards are as follow

Receive 3 cents off Petro-Canada with RBC

Just as the last Petro-Canada and RBC promotion expires, a new one begins. Last time, there was a 2 cents off promotion.

What is the promotion?

Now, they upped the promotion to 3 cents off per litre and earn 20% more Petro-Points on qualifying purchases made at Petro-Canada. What makes this more significant, is that it is on top of any rewards that you would normally earn with your RBC credit or debit card (granted there are no rewards with debit cards, but you can get something!). To triple dip, you can still present your Petro-Canada loyalty card to earn your regular points.

Ranking the Credit Card Portfolios of Each Canadian Financial Institutions (updated September 8, 2017)

It has been 4 months since the last time I updated this list, so it is probably due for an update (especially since we are adding a new company to the list!) as we approach the last third of the year. Last year was a strong year for credit cards, so I anticipated a slow year in 2017.

I always have fun ranking the credit card companies out there. It helps me get an idea on which companies are making progress and which ones are regressing.
