As you may already know, I am a big fan of trains and it is by far my favourite way to travel. Especially in Canada! Unfortunately, there is limited news that I can write about in Canada as VIA Rail has a fairly stable product and rarely do they shake things up, aside from last year’s Unlimited Pass for only $150 that sold out in less than a day.
Every Tuesday, VIA Rail offers its weekly discounts. The extend of the discounts vary from week to week. This week, we see one of the better deals. If your travel is extremely flexible, it is usually worthwhile to wait for these deals to come out before booking a trip.
VIA Rail’s popular Canada 150 Youth Pass was temporarily unavailable for almost 20 hours before being back up again. And then it is listed as sold out??

As an elite member with VIA Rail’s loyalty program, VIA Preference, you will qualify for either a choice of 2 or 4 coupons, depending on your status. The coupons are valid until April 30 of the following year that you qualify for elite status.
I thought I’d do a proper rundown of my favourite loyalty program in Canada. The main reason why it is my top pick is because travelling by train is my most preferred mode of transportation. The icing on the cake is that VIA Rail’s, VIA Preference, offers a very competitive loyalty program with lots of value to be had.
The summer is fast approaching. As usual, VIA Rail is offering a great promotion for summer travel for kids between the ages of 2 and 11 for only $15. Infants and toddlers under the age of 2 (under 24 months) travel for free, provided that they do not occupy a seat. Otherwise you will have to purchase a seat.
VIA Rail is planning a $4-billion project by the end of the year to build high-frequency electric-hybrid trains between the Windsor-Quebec City corridor. The hope is that the project will begin construction next year and be ready for 2019. The funding will come from the Federal government and the private sector.
VIA Rail is offering a pretty sweet 50% or more sale promotion on long-haul trips. You will need to book between March 3 and 13, 2016. You need to travel between March 10, 2016 and June 30, 2016.
