Finally some good news coming out of American Express. It does not completely make up for changing the rule to once-in-a-life-time sign up bonus and decreasing the number of credit cards that qualify for a referral bonus, but it does take some sting out of the hit.
It has been a while since we last updated this list. With the weak Canadian dollar, apparently slowly recovering, I thought I’d update the list of United States affiliated credit cards offered by Canadian financial institutions.
First of all, I want to mention that this post is not about teaching people how to manufacture spend. It is more about explaining the concept. So if you already know what this is about, then you won’t need to keep reading.

Though United Airlines may not be best known for its elite program, they do hold a lot of value in terms of rewards redemptions. Unfortunately for Canadians, there is no co-branded credit card that allows us to earn United Airline’s MileagePlus miles. There is no Canadians transferable points program either.
In 2013, SpaceX founder and billionaire Elon Musk announced a Hyperloop challenge to design what he calls a “fifth mode of transportation.” A Toronto startup company called Transpod took up the challenge and is looking at designing a high speed mode of transportation that could potentially allow you to travel between Montreal and Toronto in 30 minutes. The list of airline alliances needs an update from last time. Most of the changes came with the main airline affiliates (which I identified below in bullet format).
WestJet is offering several bonus dollars promotions simultaneously for specific routes.
Petro-Canada has a rewards program called Petro-Points. There are actually a few hidden gems about this program in terms of earning and redeeming points. Note that it is free to sign up. I personally would not go out of my way to earn Petro-Points, because I still prefer racking up Aeroplan miles instead.
